Summary:
Mechanic III is a lead role that is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and providing high quality repairs on heavy equipment in a shop environment with little to no guidance. Heavy Equipment types will range from compact construction equipment, earth moving equipment, aerial and T&D pulling equipment. This is a shop-based role, with the potential to travel locally.
NOTE: The Mechanic III will provide own standard tools.

- Performs extensive mechanic duties on a variety of equipment (skid steers, excavators, dozers, trenchers, bucket trucks, etc.) including trouble shooting, diagnostics and repair of equipment in the shop with little to no guidance; needs to be familiar with all makes of equipment and contractual requirements.
- Performs electronic engine diagnosis and troubleshooting.
- Uses CAT ET/INSITE programs.
- Performs electrical, hydraulic, mechanical and A/C diagnostics, including interpreting and reading schematics.
- Train and mentor new staff on best practices and safety protocols in a shop environment.
- Works with Shop Forman and Maintenance Managers on day-to-day operations and priorities.
- Orders own parts.
- Assist mechanics in the shop with parts ordering, diagnosing, completing repairs in a timely manner, in absence of the Shop Supervisor.
- Documents work order completions/variances with the use of IFS.
- Understands and complies with all Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations as well as Standard Operation Procedures.
- Capable of passing or retaining a Texas State Commercial Vehicle Inspector License.
- Operates equipment safely and efficiently including use of hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment, while always utilizing proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE.)
- Operates Company vehicle as needed for site operations and vehicle analysis according to site safety rules.
- Attends work regularly and punctually, as scheduled or expected.
- Complies with Employee Handbook, Code of Conduct and Company Policies & Procedures.

- Intermediate knowledge in:
- Microsoft Word and Excel (Data Sorting and Filters, Shortcut keys, Data Validation, basic charts, formatting, and filtering) preferred.
Safety:
- Ensures that safety is the most important function, follows safe practices while working.
- Reinforces safe behaviors and eliminates “at risk” behaviors.
- Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
- Ensures Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s) occurs before scopes of work commence.
- Adheres to and understands standard operating procedures.
- Receives job- and task-specific training prior to work commencing.
- Follows technical, quality and safety systems in place and determines appropriate action.
- Follows safety and security procedures and determines appropriate action. Reports potentially unsafe conditions and uses materials and equipment properly.
Qualifications:
- Meets and maintains DOT qualifications with a Medical Card preferred.
- 8+ years of heavy construction experience; or graduate of a mechanical technical college
- Ability to travel 5%-15% is required.
- A valid driver's license is required.
Anticipated base salary range: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
The final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
